Warnings: Awkwardness, bad tennis, suits and ties and general horniness, matchmaking, self-deprecating jokes

"I, uh... we..." Fucking shit, why is this so hard? I force myself to keep eye contact. "We used to have a thing. With Max. But... it was just casual, and it's not going on anymore, I promise!" I look at Max, who nods encouragingly.

Olls regards me for a moment. "Okay."
"Okay?"
"Yeah, I mean... it's not like I didn't assume it."

"Oh." I feel something, like a rock, rolling off my lungs. "I swear we're just friends!"
Olls still looks a bit stiff, but he says, "I appreciate your honesty."
"T-thanks?"
Olls nods and continues picking his food. I don't dare to say anything, so I just shoot a pleading look towards Max.

He shrugs a little.

Did I fuck this up? I don't think I'm hungry anymore. Fuck.
It feels like we spend an eternity in awkward silence. When it's an eternity and one minute, I attempt some small talk, because frankly, I hate this silence more than anything. It reminds me too much of home.

"Um, Olls, do you want to do something today? Like together with me?"

He squirms a little. "I-I think I just need some time alone today."
"Oh, okay." Fuck, I did fuck it up.
"But... it's not because of what you said! I'm just... like that, sometimes."

"I get it!" I reach for his hand, and to my relief, he takes it.
And I kinda do. He's not like me, and even if it's weird to me, I adore him as he is. And even if it stings a bit that he doesn't want to spend more time with me, I understand that he needs some space. This whole situation is so weird. We've hardly been together for a couple of weeks, and we're already living together. I don't want to be clingy.

Max clears his throat. "We can watch some sports on tv?"
"But everything is on a summer break!" I whine.

"Maybe not everything!"

***

We settle with Max to watch some tennis. To be completely frank (or Rhett), it's not very good. In fact, I'm pretty sure I could beat both of them, which I exclaim, amused.

I guess being a tennis player wouldn't be such a bad career path. A lot of tournaments and training and all that jazz. The only problem is that I should've started on that about ten years ago.

In the end, we just keep laughing at their bad serves and missed hits.
At least it elevates my mood some.

"Did I fuck it up?" I ask, because, for the love of the Watcher, I can't keep my mouth shut still.
"You did the right thing," Max says. "It would've come out eventually."
"Yeah..."

Olls emerges from his room, phone in his hand. He doesn't look that withdrawn anymore, thankfully.
"Quick question." He leans to the doorframe. "Do you guys like Hamilton?"

I'm confused. "The... formula one driver?"
"You mean the musical?" Max asks cleverly. "I haven't seen it, but I'd like to."

"Just because, I know someone, who knows someone, and we can get four tickets for later today," Olls says.
"Is this the guy you dated?" I ask casually. He blushes, so I already know the answer. "You have a bad track record keeping in contact with your exes."

He purses his lips. "Does it bother you?"

"Me? Of course not!"

I'm met with a disbelieving look before Olls looks at Max. "I'll let him know you're interested. Rhett?"

"If you're both going, I'm going too." I surrender. No way I'm letting Olls out of my sight. But it's not like that. I just like to be around him, that's all.

"Alright!" He smiles, then retreats to his room.
Max shoots me a quizzical look.

"What?"
"You can tell him if it bothers you."
"It doesn't!"
"Sure."

"I just... don't want to fuck it up even more." I sigh. "They're friends, or whatever. I don't want to be the possessive guy who prohibits him from seeing his friends." I sigh, dramatically this time. "I'm so bad at this, Max."

"You'll get there." He shrugs. "You already did some good steps today. Just don't forget to practice healthy communication."

"Ugh." I don't like where this conversation is going. "He already told me that, but can't it be all woo and hoo?" I whine. "Besides, you've never had a boyfriend, so you're the one to talk?"

"I read romance novels."
"Well then. Do you even have theater clothes for today?"
"I brought most of my clothes, so yeah."

"You're so thoughtful." I pat his arm.

"Oh my Watcher, this guy!" He facepalms, which draws my attention back to the tv. One of the players is just lying on the ground.

I burst out laughing. "We're really better than this, right?"
"Absolutely."

***

"Come in!"

I trot into Olls' room with a suit in my hand. He's already in dress pants and has a shirt on, currently fiddling with his tie. I catch his gaze in the mirror and shoot him a charming smile.
Then I start to undress.

I'm about halfway into my dress pants when I look up to see him staring at me with blazing eyes. Oh, I love when he looks at me like this.

I make a show of putting on my shirt, flexing my muscles, and ruffling my hair.
I notice his tie is still undone, hanging around his neck, forgotten.

"You need help with your tie?"
He blinks. "Oh, um..."

I jump here, and quickly knot his tie.
"Why are you so good at this?" he asks, cheeks getting a little pink. "How often do you wear ties?"
"Well, I had to accompany my father quite a few times on boring business events." Alright, they weren't as boring when I could find someone around my age who was willing to do things in a bathroom, but that's not something Olls needs to know. "I can tie it in multiple ways. I don't always tie them on necks, though," I finish, smirking.
His cheeks turn bright red, and I take a mental note to tie him somewhere after this ridiculous theater event.

"All done!" I smooth his tie and give him a quick peck on his lips.
"T-thanks."

I wink at him and change into my shirt. He puts on his suit jacket and hot damn. It hugs his body just perfectly, and he looks like a fucking secret agent.

"Oh, come to bed, honeypie!"
He blushes again, and it's adorable. I have no idea how he can be hella sexy and so damn cute at the same time, but it makes me slightly mad. Okay, not just slightly. I really need to distract myself, before I end up jumping on him.

"Alright," I say, putting on my jacket. "I'll go check Max!"
I skip to my own room and open the door.

"MAXIMILIAN!" I call his name, politely.

A pillow hits my face, and I hear him laugh.

"You can't just enter when I'm dressing!"
Jokes on him, he looks fully dressed already.

"It's my room, and I can do whatever I want!" I complain.
"And I'm the guest, so I also do whatever I want!"
I stick out my tongue in response. "You ready?"

"As much as I can." He grabs his phone.

Olls also got ready in the meantime, and we're off.

***

Olls looks at his phone, frowning. "We're gonna be late!"
"Nope, just fashionably on time," I say, which makes Max chuckle.

"I can't believe you two!"
We arrive only five minutes late, that's not a big deal.

Olls quickly finds Wyatt. He's shorter than he seems in his Simstagram pictures. Not that I checked them.

"Hi!" Olls greets him with a handshake. "This is my boyfriend, Rhett!"
I'm getting used to being called his boyfriend. It's surprisingly nice.
Max also makes his introduction, smiling at the guy.

"Do you want something to drink?" Olls asks us after we get through the nice ticket lady, who wishes us a great time.
"Just water," says Wyatt.
"An orange juice would be great!" Max smiles.
"I'm not thirsty." That's what I say.

"Alright, we can fetch the drinks with Rhett, right?" Olls grabs my arm and starts pulling me towards the buffet. What even.

The line is fucking long. Why there aren't two cashiers, I can't understand.
"We will never get the drinks," I whine. Olls seems unbothered.

"The longer it takes, the better."
"What?"
"I wanted to leave them alone."

It takes me a couple of seconds, but oh. I look back at Max and Wyatt, already deep in conversation, smiling at each other. It makes so much sense now. I can't believe I haven't thought about it. Mind me, I was quite distracted by Olls in a suit.

I raise my eyebrows. "You little shit, are you learning these things from Lainey?"
He answers with a shy smile. "Maybe."
I feel a sudden urge to drag him to a toilet and have my way with him.

When we return (as slowly as we can without clogging up the place), Max is already doing his flirty face. We exchange a knowing look with Olls. Oh, this is fun!

I hand Max the orange juice. "Here's your drink."
"Thank you!"
"Had a nice chat?"

He shoots me a look, and I pat his shoulder, laughing.
"Just asking!"
He indeed looks a bit flustered, and I store this information for later use.

"Babe?" I look at Olls, who raises his eyebrows in question. "Would you like to share your drink with me?"
"I thought you said you didn't want anything?" he muses, but hands his tonic to me, obediently.

I take a sip. "Ew, this is not a good drink. Maybe if it had some alcohol."
But he just shrugs.

"I think we should go inside," Wyatt says. "We only have five minutes left!"

***

There's a break halfway through the play. I step out of the bathroom. What a relief.
"Rhett O’Ward?"

Hey, that’s my name! I turn around, looking for the source of the sound, and see a very familiar face. Holy shit!
"Bonnie?"

"Hey!" she calls out, beaming at me. "What the fuck are you doing here?"

"No, what the fuck are you doing here? I thought you moved to Wolfbridge?"
"Well, I did, but now I’m back! I moved back a couple of months ago!"
"Crazy!"

She looks stunning, her blond waves arranged in a neat bun, and I’ve never seen her skin so spotless in my life. I’ve only seen her in photos since she moved to Wolfbridge when we were sixteen, and I still can’t believe she’s here, in her three dimensioned self.
"I see your hair color finally matches your IQ level!"
"See? But you haven’t answered me Award," she says, raising an eyebrow at me. "Not in my wildest dreams I thought I’d see you in a theater? If not in the pit?"

I flash her a grin. "You see, I’m being so cultured now!"
"The man with a lot of sides, that sounds like you, alright." She laughs, then slaps her forehead. "Oh! Let me introduce you to my girlfriend! Jay, babes, c’mere!"

She grabs a tall woman with short blue hair. "He’s Rhett! The man, the myth, the legend! The ray of sunshine in my confused early teenhood! Player of hearts and also the classical piano!"
"Hello," Jay says simply, firmly shaking my hand, before turning to Bonbon. "I’ll get scones."

"Alright!" Bonbon waves to her. "Sorry, she’s not very social today. Where were we?"
"At the point where I’m shocked that you have a girlfriend, Bonbon?"

"Ah!" She giggles. "It turned out that I’m a lesbian, who knew!"
"That explains a lot," I smirk, which earns me a hit on the shoulder.

"Rude! And you? Still a raging bi?"
"Not so raging anymore, but yeah. I have a boyfriend, actually."

"No way!" she gasps dramatically. I almost forgot how fun she used to be. "Local fuckboy finds true love, more news at eight?"
"Asshole."
"Where’s he?"

I point to the place, where Olls is talking with Max and Wyatt. "There! The redhead."

Olls laughs at something, a huge smile spreading on his handsome face. I can’t take my eyes off of him.

"Aw, you always had a thing for the cute ones!" Bonbon’s voice snaps me out of my Olls-induced trance.

"I need to introduce you!" I realize, grabbing her wrist, and pulling her towards the little group.
"Whoa, chill, I’m wearing heels!"

I look down at her feet, they’re not just high heels, more like skyscraping heels. Twelve-story-high fucking heels. "That seems dangerous."

"Good thing then, I have a strong girlfriend, who’s ready to catch me!" She grins.
We finally reach our destination, everyone looking at us curiously.

"Olls, babe! Look who I found!"
Olls just raises his eyebrow, but only the right one.

"She’s Bonnie! My best friend! Or ex-best friend? Are we still best friends?"
"Whatever you want. Hello!" She shakes Olls’ hand vigorously, then turns to Max. "Hey, I know you, Max!"

Max waves at her. "You indeed do!"
"And you?" Now she addresses Wyatt. "Max’s boyfriend?"

Max turns a little pink, and Olls tries to suppress a grin. He's quite unsuccessful.
"No, we just met, I’m just Wyatt."
"Nice to meet you!"
That’s when the signal goes off, which means the second part of the play starts soon.

"I should go find Jay and the scones," she announces. "It was good to see you, man! And all of you, really!"
"We should totally catch up sometime!"

"Absolutely!" She starts walking backward, almost bumping into several people on the way. Bonbon, never change. "I’ll write!"

"And if you don’t, I’ll pester you!" She gives me thumbs up for that, and I salute her. I’m very much looking forward to catching up with her.
It’s weird to think about those years when we were best friends. Minus the two ill-advised months when we were dating, but fortunately, we found out soon enough, it’s not for us. It was before Bonbon figured out she was a lesbian, of course. We were literally inseparable, two troublemakers always looking for pranks to make, hearts to break.

"I think we should head inside," Olls suggests, interrupting my reminiscing.
"I’m so glad Bonbon is here!" I can’t stop myself from saying. "I haven’t seen her for ages! And she has a girlfriend now! We used to hang out all the time! It’s funny, people used to call us Bonnie and Clyde, even if my name is not Clyde. Fortunately. Nathaniel is bad enough already as a second name, I wouldn’t want to be a Clyde as well! Honestly, who names their kid Clyde?"
Olls cuts my thoughts short. "I think we should really head inside."

"Uh, yeah, sorry."

"I don’t know anyone called Clyde, so I guess not many people," he concludes with a soft smile, and damn, I feel something funny in my chest.

He takes my hand and interlaces his fingers with mine. Maybe this theater visit was worth it after all.

***

"... ten out of ten would watch it again," Max declares when we get home. He couldn't shut up about the play the whole way home, and even I had to admit that it wasn't half bad.

"I'm the first in the bathroom!" Olls announces.
I hardly resist the temptation to join him, but I stay with Max instead. He's our guest after all, and I prove to be a responsible host once again.

Max checks his phone, then hums. "I'm going to check out an apartment tomorrow. Hopefully, you won't see me much after that!"
"Liar. We have tennis on Tuesday."

"That still stands?"
I raise an eyebrow at him. "Why wouldn't it?"
"Dunno."

"I need to maintain that body somehow!" I smirk and strike a pose on the couch. "How else am I going to keep my boyfriend?"
"Like that matters to him the most."
"Huh?"

He shoots me a glance. "I'm sorry to break it to you, but he's clearly head over heels for you."
"What?"
"He even seems to like your personality," he says.

First I think he's joking, but his face is too serious. "How do you know?"
"I have eyes."
"Don't you say!"

That's when his phone starts ringing. He sighs and starts to fish it out of his pocket where he just put it back. "I know what you think, but you're more than... shit."
"What?"

He anxiously bites his lip and shows me his phone with the incoming call. It's his father.
Well, shit indeed.

And that was another chapter! Sorry it took me so long... But it's finally here! Also we have a new voting! Should Rhett stop or encourage Max to pick up the phone? You can VOTE HERE! I'll close the voting in 2 weeks, on the 7th of May!

Ahhh I'm so excited that I can finally start posting about Bonnie 😭 I love her so much! And they have a lot of history with Rhett XD
I also love Max. I love everyone 😭

If you were wondering, no, I still don't know anything about the Hamilton musical, and the sole reason why I used it is that I can have the formula one driver joke XD

I hope you enjoyed the chapter! If you have thoughts about it, feel free to share in the comments! Thank you for reading! 😊

The more chapters we get from Rhett's view, the more I appreciate that now we have this change of the POV. I mean I was really happy when Rhett and Ollie got together and I believed Rhett that he was serious. But we knew Rhett from S1 and that he didn't really show all of his feelings. So knowing his backround and his thoughts is important (for me) to understand their relationship and how much they both need each other. Quite hard to describe what I mean :D
