"Put it on speaker!"

Max looks up at me with wide eyes. "What?"
"I want to hear what he has to say!"

"Alright," he mutters, takes a deep breath, and picks up the phone. "Hi, Dad."
"Thank Watcher, Max, I'm glad you answered, we were so worried about you!"
"I'm fine."

We exchange a look with Max. I feel just as nervous as him.
"Look," his father continues, "I know we didn't handle this situation well. We talked about it with your mother, and we didn't realize how integral part it is to you. We want to apologize."

I look at Max with wide eyes and see him tearing up a bit.
"We want to say sorry that we forced you into a situation you were not comfortable with. We want to say sorry that we dismissed or tried to change a part of you. We want to change and understand you better. Please, Max, come home, so we can talk about it."

A single teardrop strikes Max's face. He wipes it away.
"Alright. I'll come home... tomorrow."
"Good. Take care. We love you."

"Bye, Dad," Max sniffs and finishes the call.
Then he bursts out crying.

"Hey, Max, that's good!" I say, and pull him into a hug. "I can get my room back!"
He lets out a wet chuckle.

"But seriously, this is great!"
"I know!"

Olls comes out of the bathroom, and looks at us, raising his eyebrows. I try to tell him with my eyes that I'll explain it to him later. He nods, understanding, then retreats to his room, quietly.

I hold Max tightly and let him continue to sob into my shirt.

***

When I step out of Olls' room the next morning, Max is already packed and dressed.
"I didn't want to leave without saying goodbye," he says instead of greeting.

I can't stop myself from being worried a little. "You'll be fine?"
"I hope."
"But you know if something happens you can call me, right?"

"Yeah, thank you." He smiles a little. "For everything."
I wave him away. "You already thanked me, it's fine. Keep me updated," I tell him, then put my arms around him. I really hope he's right.

***

I look up and watch Olls carefully locking the door behind him.

"Hi!" His face lights up as he addresses me, and it's wonderful. Then his gaze slides to the book I'm holding. "Are you... reading?"

"Yeah." I shrug. "I was curious about these sexy aliens. I need to occupy myself somehow now that I'm trapped in this relationship with you," I smirk, and his face drops.
Shit, I said the wrong thing.
"That's not-"

"That's how you feel about it?" he asks quietly.

"No. I was joking, sorry." His face stays nervous, and I want to scream. I need to learn how to filter myself. I put the book aside and pat my lap. "C'mere."

He steps here and sits down on my lap. I wrap my arms around him and place a kiss on his cheek.

"I like being with you," I reassure him, but that's an understatement. I feel the best when I'm around him, I can't stop thinking about him when we're apart, and I could gaze into his pretty eyes for the rest of my life.
Ugh, I'm getting obsessed.

He smooths a stray lock out of my forehead and kisses me.
No one else kissed me like that before, so slowly and sweetly. It feels like a confession. For once I don't rush to deepen the kiss, and it feels amazing.

When we part, he touches his forehead to mine, smiling. "I hope so."
We stay like that for a couple of moments breathing each other's air.

"How's Lainey?" I ask, breaking the silence. I kinda regret it when he pulls away.
"Fine! She finally found a dress, can you believe it?" Olls smiles and starts tapping on his phone.
"It only took her a year," I muse.
"Half a year, but you're close." He shows me a picture of Lainey, in a simple but very pretty dress.

"It's lovely. It could use some color, though. " That's what I manage to say. It suddenly dawns on me that the wedding will be in less than two weeks, and I will be shown around as Olls' boyfriend to all of his family and friends and whatnot. I'm not sure I'm ready for that.

"Ah, she really wanted a white dress," Olls says, smiling, then lets out a sigh. "She will be so pretty, they both will be. Please don't laugh at me if I burst out crying at the wedding."
"I would never!"
"It's just so crazy that they're getting married."
"It's just a paper," I say.
"I know, but... it's still more? Like an official claim that they're each other's person."

I hum. "I never thought you were such a romantic."
"I'm not!"
"Do you want me to call you my darling? Should I buy you flowers? Write you poems?"

He covers his face with his hands. "Stop!"
"Just imagine: we could go on long romantic strolls in the park, you on my arm, while I hold a parasol above you-"
"Rhett!"
"We could feed ducks!"

He lets out a helpless groan, his face bright red under his fingers, and I can't stop laughing. I nudge his hand with my nose.
"That doesn't appeal to you, my sweet darling?"
"No," he says between his fingers.
"But the ducks!"

Olls groans again, and I place a kiss on his forehead. He sighs at this and lowers his hands.
"You know I'm just teasing," I tell him.
"I do." He considers me for a moment. "Have you heard about Max?"

"Oh yeah!" I light up. "He said it went fine! And his parents understood his points."
"I'm glad," he says with a small smile. "I was worried. No one deserves to go through this."

"Baby." That's all I say before pulling him into an embrace. I know what's on his mind, and I wish I could make it better for him. Because... he's very important to me.

Bonbon invites us on a karaoke double date.
It's nice to spend time with her again. She's still just like how I remember her, which means she still can't shut up. But also... she changed in some things. I guess I did too.

It quickly turns out that of all of us, only Jay can sing. It doesn't stop me and Bonbon from performing Lose Yourself. This is the best performance of our lives. We should be rappers, really.

Olls is a bit reluctant at first and claims that he only knows metal songs (which I know for a fact is a blatant lie).

We end up singing Livin on a Prayer. Olls gains confidence about halfway through the song, and it turns out that he actually has a great voice (what?). At the end of the song we're just belting, and smiling ear to ear, and I don't remember the last time I had so much fun.

***

I trot into Olls' room, and sprawl on his bed. He glances at me briefly, shooting me a small smile.
"Give me a few minutes," he says and continues to work on his computer. I've never seen anyone type that fast. I wonder what his quick fingers could do to me, and suddenly it becomes very hot here.

I turn to lie on my stomach and let out a dramatic sigh. Olls doesn't look at me this time, he's already back in deep concentration, his brows slightly furrowing. I notice that a wild strand of hair escaped his bun.

I jump up and let his hair loose.
"Rhett," he grunts, still trying to keep his focus on whatever he's working on.

I place a kiss on the top of his head.
"Just a few minutes," he sighs.

I start playing with his hair, braiding and unbraiding it. It's incredibly soft to the touch, and I realize, I could thread my fingers through it all day.
When I finish, and he still doesn't, I throw myself back on his bed.

"I'm bored!" I declare.
Olls gives me his trademark eyeroll. "Go play with your phone, or something."

This is when the genius idea hits me, and I can't stop myself from grinning.
"Oh, I know a better thing to play with!"

I toss away my tee, spread my palm on my stomach, and start to slowly move it downwards.
This finally earns his full attention, his gaze almost burning my skin. It's not hard to get worked up when he's looking at me like this, cheeks getting pink, hair still loose, as I left it.
Oh, this is fun.

"You're a menace!" he complains, blushing furiously.
I don't say anything, just lick my lips.

"Ugh, go to hell," he whines, giving up the resistance, and joins me on the bed, kissing me passionately.
And I just slot myself into the place where I like to be the most.

Between his legs.
Why did no one tell me that sex is so much better when you actually care about the other party?

I grin at Olls, who looks blissfully done, his hair is a mess, and his face is still pink. He smiles back with that cute smile of his, turns, and puts his arm around me.

"Ew, gross," I say, laughing. "We should get cleaned up."
He just lets out a groan in disagreement.

***

Next weekend, we're invited to Lainey's (and Dan's) for a game party. It turns out that it means Monopoly. It also turns out that they're all very competitive when it comes to said game.
I have a lucky hand, though.
"Oh, shit."

I clear my throat. "You entered my property on Landgraab Square," I say and extend my palm towards Olls. "Pay up, bitch."
Both Lainey and Dan burst out laughing, and Olls makes an irritated grimace.

He depressively puts his last fake simoleons into my hand.
"I can't believe I lost," he whines. "I'm usually better than Dan."
"Lies!" Dan exclaims.

I grin at Olls, who thought he was such a sore loser? "It's okay, babe, I can share my houses on Woodland Drive with you!"
"That's a shitty lot!"

"You need to appreciate the things you have, Ollie," Dan muses.
"I do!"

Seeing his grumpy face, I suddenly feel very affectionate towards him. I place a kiss on his cheek. "My grumpy baby."
He blushes a bit at that.

We finish the game. Lainey wins to Dan's dismay, and they start teasing each other about it. Now I get why Olls says that they were made for each other. They already act like an old married couple.

We move on to the snacks then. Finally.
"How's Rachel?" Olls asks.

Dan shrugs. "I think she's getting enough of her pregnancy. But she's fine in general. The baby too."

"Who's Rachel?" I blurt out while chewing on some chips.

"My sister," Dan says. "She will be my maid of honor at our wedding. She's very pregnant and very prone to complain about everything and anything. Maybe it's the hormones."

"Oh shush!" Lainey punches Dan's arm playfully. "She's not that bad. I bet I will be a harpy when I get pregnant."
"You're not getting pregnant then," Dan deadpans.
Lainey shoots him a look.

"What? You need to fuck people for that!"
"I'll find a surrogate then," she jokes. "Ollie? Would you be my baby daddy?"

Olls turns pink all of a sudden. "W-what?"
Dan bursts out laughing, and I pat Olls' shoulder.

"I volunteer to be the godfather!"
Olls just fixes me with a look then.

"And?" I turn to Lainey and Dan. "Are you guys ready for the wedding?"
"More than ready," Dan claims. "It must be perfect after all this preparation!"

"It will be!" Olls chimes in.
My thoughts exactly.

"Just a spoonful of sugar, and another spoonful of sugar!" I stop, but eh, it's not enough. "And a third spoonful of sugar, and my coffee is done!"

Olls enters the kitchen, still half asleep, rubbing his eyes.

"Good morning baby!" I smile at him.
"Morning. I see you've taken a liking to musicals."
"You see, I'm capable of development!"

I start making coffee for him in his favorite mug, still humming.

"What are your plans for today?" I ask him, while I watch him taking a seat.
"Well, I'm going to the hairdresser-"

I almost drop my mug in shock. "What?"
"- to cut my hair."

"NO!" I jump to him and wrap my arms around him.
"Just a bit from the end of it."
"No!" I repeat, shaking my head. "Not your hair!"
"I said, just the end of it, it's broken and everything. I want it to look nice for the wedding," he says, sounding a bit strangled. "You won't even notice!"

"You can't go!"
He starts laughing and shaking his head in disbelief. "Rhett!"
I let out a defeated, dramatic sigh. "Alright. Just this once. But only the end of it!"
"I promise," he says, smiling.

I love his smile, so beautiful. Ugh, I'm overwhelmed with affection, help.
Fuck, my coffee.

I rush to the coffee machine and continue making Olls' coffee, after checking that mine is fortunately still warm.
"And what are your plans for today?" he asks.

I freeze a bit at that, a weird feeling coiling up in my insides. I feel like I should do something useful, but I only got dismissive answers to my job applications yet. I shake my head, deciding to worry about this later. "I'm going to tennis with Max," I tell him in the end.

"Tell him I said hi!" He smiles at me when I put his coffee in front of him.

"You should join us one day!"
"But you know I'm awful at sports," he admits, flustered.
"Oh c'mon, it's not a competition, we're just having fun!" I nudge his shoulder. I admit I want to see him trying.

"Alright, I'll think about it." He rolls his eyes, cutely.
"Great!"

The day of Dainey's wedding arrives - I admit I'm quite proud of the ship name I came up with - and I'm a little nervous. I'm used to attending events where I don't know many people, but I’ve only been to one wedding before and I was… kinda wasted the whole time. Olls didn't let me see his best man speech, no matter how much I tried to persuade him with sex, with sex withdrawal (the latter backfired because I gave up earlier than him). But I know he's nervous about it, and somehow he infected me as well.

I look at my ties. I forgot that I had so many of them; I must've bought some of them when I was drunk. I select a red one that goes well with my suit when my gaze falls on a patterned one. Ugh, I really like that one.
